Prof. Dr. Huijun Gao

Prof. Huijun Gao was born in Heilongjiang province, China, in 1976. He received the Ph.D. degree in control science and engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), China, in 2005. From 2005 to 2007, he carried out his postdoctoral research with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Alberta, Canada. Since November 2004, he has been with HIT, where he is currently a professor, the founder and director of the Research Institute of Intelligent Control and Systems, and dean of School of Science. He is Chairman of HIT Youth Association for Science & Technology, and also a committee member of All-China Youth Federation.

Prof. Gao’s research interests include network-based control, robust control/filter theory, time-delay systems and their engineering applications. In these areas, he has (co-)authored 3 monographs, and published more 300 papers in international journals and peer-reviewed conferences, among which, more than 100 papers are published in IEEE Transactions and Automatica. His scientific papers have been cited for more than 8000 and 21000 times according to Web of Science and Google Scholar, respectively. He has been an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics since 2006. He is also a Co-Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, and an Associate/Technical/Guest Editor for Automatica, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Transaction on Fuzzy Systems, IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics, IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology as well as many other international journals. He is also an Associate Editor in IEEE CSS Conference Editorial Board. Dr. Gao serves as a member of IEEE Fellow committee (2015-now), a member of the Administrative Committee of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) (2013-now), a member of IEEE Control Systems Society Technical Committee on Systems with Uncertainty (2010-now) and a member of IEEE IES Technical Committee on Data Driven Control and Monitoring (2011-now).

He is Deputy Head of Youth Committee of the Chinese Association of Automation, China (2007-now). He has also actively served in organizing many international conferences. He was General Chair of ICMC 2014 and ISSCAA 2010, TPC Chair of IEEE ISIE 2014, ICARCV 2014 and ICIEA 2007, IPC Chair of ISSCAA 2006, and 2008, Session/Track Chair of IEEE ISIE 2012, and 2013, as well as Program Committee Member of many other conferences. Prof. Gao was elected as a Fellow of IEEE for his contributions to the theory and industrial applications of networked control system. He was the recipient of the IEEE J. David Irwin Early Career Award from IEEE IES in 2013. He was ranked as the top 17 of the world’s most influential minds by Thomson Reuters in 2014. Prof. Gao was a recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, China, in 2008.

He also received several academic and teaching awards, including the National Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award (2007), the National Natural Science Award of China (twice in 2008 and 2014), the Provincial Natural Science Award of Heilongjiang (2011), the SCOPUS Young Researcher Award (2010), the University of Alberta Dorothy J. Killam Memorial Postdoctoral Fellow Prize (2005), the Special Government Allowance Award (2013), the Outstanding Teacher Award of Heilongjiang (2009), and so on. In 2011, he won the China Youth May 4th Medal, the National Award for Youth in Science and Technology, and the Tan Kah Kee Young Scientist Award. Prof. Gao is an Honorary Professor at The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, and he is the Distinguished Professor of Yangtze River Scholar awarded by Ministry of Education of China in 2012.
