Course Description:
Electromagnetic compatibility, noise emission, immunity measurements, standards, power supply line, solar, wind farms, reactive power compensation

Topics:
Introduction, historical interest, examples, evolution of EMC, definition of EMC, concepts of emission and immunity, propagation/coupling modes (conducted, capacitive and inductive coupling, wave propagation)
Types of disturbances, their source classification and characteristics (LFI, LEMP, NEMP, ESD, EMP, RFI)
Concept of conducted disturbance, concept of LISN, measurement set-up and standard, common and differential mode propagation, filtering solutions
Concept of radiated emission, measurement setup (instrument and antenna), effect of common and differential mode on radiated emission, relationship between conducted and radiated phenomena
Electromagnetic pulse of lightning (LEMP), coupling options, effects on electrical apparatus. Overvoltage protection devices, principle of operation and selection of spark gap, varistor and zener diode
Earthings, interconnections, shielding and filtering; Transmission and distribution networks, transformers and radiated disturbances of electrical apparatus.
