Course Description:
The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to the design of permanent technical installations that have to meet the requirements of static, hydrological and water management objectives - design considerations, economics, coordination and consideration of the different interests of water management.
On hydraulic engineering in general. Stream regulation. River regulation. Dams. Waterpower plants. Valley barriers. Flood protection. Hot water management. Water management Pumping stations. Piers and embankments.
The teaching of the subject is regularly adapted to the evolution of the field and to the changing needs of society.

Competences:
able to distribute, share and prioritize architectural or engineering tasks; able to manage working groups and to integrate the input of other related engineering fields taking part in the design process

14 WEEKS SCHEDULE:
1. week: The purpose and tasks of water management/ Description of the semester assignments and requirements
2. week: Plain water management/ Description of the semester assignments and requirements.
3. week: Hillside water management/ Review of the knowledge of hydraulics and hydrology required to complete the semester design work.
4. week: River regulation, Downhill water regulation, Hard coastal protection structures/ Review of the knowledge of hydraulics and hydrology required to complete the semester design work.
5. week: Drinking water management and drinking water well drilling/ Consultation
6. week: Hydropower / Consultation
7. week: Mid-term test 1.
8. week: Dam /Consultation
9. Flood protection / Discussing the detail of the design work
10. Water transport, ports, harbours / Discussing the detail of the design work
11. Agricultural water management / Consultation
12. Thermal water management. Spa and beach baths. / Consultation
13. Mid-term test 2.
