Course Description:
The aim of the course is to provide the students with basic knowledge of Environmental Design. In the course the students learn the basics, the typologies and the planning methodology of landscape architecture. During the semester they will be able o sort, observe, and analyse information collected during the design, implementation and operational processes, and to conclude the lessons, including the feedback into practice.

Topics:
14 WEEKS SCHEDULE:

1. Introduction to Landscape Architecture, it’s methodology and typology. Design phases, types of plans. Connection points with other professions. Description of the midterm-assignment. Examples from the previous years.

2. Elements and it’s system in the garden view. Image of the outdoor spaces. Consultation: topic selection.

3. Integration into the environment. The inner and outer space. Land-Art. Consultation: analysis of the existing conditions.

4. Vegetation as a building material.

5. Urban green areas and system. Consultation: SWOT-analysis, bubble-diagram of the proposed functions, site conditions.

6. City open spaces, parks and recreational design. Consultation.

7. Residential and Private Gardens. Consultation.

8. Institute and facility gardens I. Consultation.

9. Institute and facility gardens II. Consultation.

10. Sustainable environmental design opportunities (green roofs, green facades, water-management, biodiversity). Consultation o the assignment, 90% readiness level, final signature for the assignment.

11. Heritage protection: design in historical environment and management of historical gardens and parks. Deadline of the Midterm Assignment!

12. Designing natural sites and educational trails.

13. PRESENTATION OF THE MIDTERM ASSIGNMENT PRESENTATION OF THE MIDTERM-ASSIGNMENT.

Assessment: Midterm assignment.
