With its 25,000 students (approximately 6,000 international students), 2,400 researchers, 21 doctoral schools and 10 faculties, the University of Pécs (UP) is one of the largest research universities in Hungary. Its roots date back to 1367. The University provides a wide range of programmes in the fields of medicine and health sciences, engineering, informatics, natural and social sciences, arts and sports sciences. The Szentágothai János Research Centre provides state-of-the-art technologies for researchers and students across diverse disciplines. The University of Pécs is one of the five higher education institutions in Hungary that bears the title of “Excellent University”. Several high-quality research projects representing international standards are being implemented at its ten faculties and the Clinical Centre. Owing to the different profiles of its faculties, the University’s scientific activities are exceptionally extensive, multidisciplinary and diverse, covering medicine, life sciences, natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, fine arts, applied arts and music.

The UP Clinical Centre is one of the largest health care providers in Hungary. With its 29 health care units and nearly 5,000 staff members, the Centre has been providing health care in Pécs and the surrounding region for several decades. It also plays an active role in the practical education of medical students and health care professionals. Working in close collaboration with the Medical School and the Faculty of Health Sciences, it combines high-level expertise with modern medical technologies.

Moreover, the University’s more than 300 study programmes cover almost every field of science and art. The reputation and popularity of the University are enhanced by the large number of international students attracted by programmes taught in foreign languages, various exchange opportunities and its 20 colleges for advanced studies. The PhD/DLA programmes represent the highest level of education.

The University of Pécs represents classical academic values while successfully adapting to the challenges of the present and the future. Covering a wide range of educational areas, it reaches far beyond the city of Pécs. The University operates an independent faculty in Szekszárd and runs significant training programmes in Kaposvár, Szombathely and Zalaegerszeg, as well as abroad in Zombor and Székelyudvarhely.

Internationalization remains one of the University’s strategic priorities. The University offers more than 100 full-degree programmes and several short courses in English, as well as programmes in other foreign languages. Since June 2016, international students have also been able to participate in short programmes offered within the framework of the University’s unique Summer University. Thanks to its extensive network of partnerships and exchange programmes with excellent universities across Europe, the United States and Asia, approximately 6,000 international students from more than 146 countries are currently studying at the University of Pécs, making it one of the most international universities in Hungary.

The University of Pécs is one of the country’s leading research universities with an outstanding scientific background.
