The tenth class specializing in light industry began their studies in Odorheiu Secuiesc
The new academic year has commenced in Odorheiu Secuiesc, where 25 students specializing in light industry have started on their BSc studies for the 2023/24 academic year. They constitute the tenth class of the Obuda University's cross-border, outsourced light industry program. Obuda University's Rejtő Sándor Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Protection Engineering has been offering Hungarian-language engineering education in Odorheiu Secuiesc since 2014. The aim of the program is to provide high-quality education and opportunities for professional development for Hungarian-speaking youth in the Carpathian Basin.
Ferenc Ilyés, the Executive Director of SZÉK, reminded that the institution is one of the important pillars of Hungarian education in the Carpathian Basin, where outsourced higher education has been provided by renowned Hungarian universities for 25 years. He mentioned that in the jubilee academic year, 520 students are studying at the institution.
Dr. habil. László Koltai, Dean of Rejtő Sándor Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Protection Engineering at Obuda University, welcomed the students during the event and conveyed the words of greeting from Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector. In his address, Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács emphasized that the university's leadership places significant emphasis on the education of the Hungarian communities beyond the borders.
In his ceremonial speech, the dean congratulated the students on their successful admission results and wished the first-year students success and perseverance. He emphasised the importance of unity and responsibility.
Dr. habil. László Koltai stated after the event: "The education provided here offers Hungarian-speaking youth living in Transylvania the opportunity for Hungarian-language instruction, thereby contributing to the preservation of the Hungarian language and culture." He further explained that the education contributes to the economic development of the Carpathian Basin region. Students acquire professional knowledge and skills that can be utilized by Hungarian-owned businesses operating in the Carpathian Basin. He also highlighted that the education strengthens the relationships between instructors and companies in both Hungary and Odorheiu Secuiesc.
The words of Jenő Szász, President of the the Foundation for Odorheiu Secuiesc, were conveyed by Orbán Attila, the foundation's director. In his letter, Szász Jenő welcomed the students and emphasized that the foundation's goal is to support education and culture for the Hungarian community in Odorheiu Secuiesc, with SZÉK playing a prominent role in this endeavor.
Zsolt Ölvedi, Deputy Mayor of Odorheiu Secuiesc, highlighted the institution's significant role in providing education and support for the Hungarian community in Székelyföld.
Other speakers at the opening ceremony were László Vigh, Scientific and International Deputy Rector of Edutus Universi, Csaba Gyuricza, Rector of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, László Koltai, Dean of the Rejtő Sándor Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Protection Engineering, József Betlehem, General, Strategic, and Relationship Deputy Rector of the University of Pécs.
