The Times Higher Education (THE) Europe Universities Summit 2025 concluded successfully

Jointly organized by Obuda University and Semmelweis University, the Times Higher Education (THE) Europe Universities Summit 2025 recently concluded, having provided a three-day platform for addressing key issues shaping the future of higher education. On the opening day, Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector of Obuda University, emphasized that the ongoing reforms in Hungarian higher education had opened new perspectives regarding institutional autonomy and international engagement.




In his welcome speech, Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács noted that the summit offered an excellent opportunity for higher education leaders and experts to reflect on shared challenges and develop strategic responses. He highlighted that Hungary’s reforms were granting universities greater flexibility to align with global standards, and Obuda University had been among the first to adopt and promote these changes.

Throughout the three-day event, participants engaged in dynamic discussions, gained insights into emerging trends, and explored new avenues for international collaboration. Key topics included the role of universities in driving societal transformation, promoting innovation ecosystems, strengthening European and global partnerships, and leveraging cutting-edge technologies to support the future of higher education.

The conference featured more than 50 prominent speakers, including Mark Daley (Director of AI, Western University, Canada), Josep Garrell (President, European University Association), Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács (Rector, Obuda University), Prof. Dr. Béla Merkely (Rector, Semmelweis University), Funmi Olonisakin (Vice President for International Engagement, King’s College London), and Katja Schenke-Layland (Vice President for Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer, University of Tübingen). A wide range of workshops and interactive sessions allowed for in-depth dialogue and the exchange of innovative ideas, contributing to the summit’s overall success.
