IEEE Hungary Section Announces This Year’s Student Paper Contest
The competition provides an excellent opportunity for scientific work in electrical engineering, computer science, electronics, telecommunications, as well as related fields of modern technology and engineering, to gain professional recognition rather than simply gathering dust on a shelf.
The competition is open to Hungarian and international students enrolled at Hungarian higher education institutions, as well as Hungarian students studying at universities abroad, provided that they have active student status in any bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral programme during the semester in which their work was published. Importantly, IEEE membership is not a prerequisite for participation, meaning that anyone meeting the eligibility criteria is welcome to put their knowledge and achievements to the test.
Applications may be submitted with scientific journal articles, conference papers and TDK papers. Previous recognition or awards received for the work elsewhere do not constitute an obstacle to participation.
Each applicant may submit a single paper, while in the case of co-authored work, a maximum of three students may apply with the same paper. If the author list also includes a non-student applicant, such as a supervisor, the student applicant must appear before them in the list of authors. Applicants should note that a traditional thesis or diploma project cannot be submitted on its own, as it forms part of the student’s compulsory academic requirements. However, if a TDK paper was subsequently developed into a thesis, the original TDK paper may still be submitted, provided that it does not include additional content produced as part of the diploma project. The evaluation focuses exclusively on the professional and scientific content of the work. Neither the publication venue nor the reputation of co-authors influences the result, which is determined by an evaluation committee appointed by the President of IEEE Hungary Section.
Successful applicants will receive a prestigious certificate in English at one of the association’s flagship events. In addition, the top three entries will receive cash prizes: HUF 60,000 for first place, HUF 45,000 for second place and HUF 30,000 for third place. Works published between 1 December 2025 and 30 November 2026 are eligible for submission. The application deadline is 12:00 noon on 5 December 2026.
Applications must be submitted in PDF format to lamar@uni-obuda.hu. The original, unmodified version of the work must be accompanied by an institutional certificate issued no more than eight days prior to submission, stamped and signed or bearing a qualified electronic signature, confirming the applicant’s active student status and level of study. The results are expected to be announced and applicants notified by 31 January 2027 by Róbert Lovas, President, and Krisztián Lamár, Awards and Recognition Chair.
