Our institution's delegation represented the Hungarian universities at the Liaoning International Friendship Conference
A delegation from Obuda University, led by Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, participated in a large-scale international conference. The delegation represented Hungary at the Liaoning International Friendship Conference held last week. The event, which brought together nearly 500 participants, included representatives from 15 countries, rectors from 50 universities, and over 60 city leaders, providing an excellent platform for strengthening international dialogue and cooperation. During the plenary session of the conference, Prof. Dr. Kovács was the only university leader invited to present the educational, research, and innovation activities of Obuda University. During the trip to the Far East, a significant cooperation agreement was also concluded with Northeastern University.
The invitation was preceded by a visit from our university’s rector two months earlier, which laid the foundation for the current negotiations and future joint initiatives. Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács stated: "During the talks, we identified several areas that could be mutually beneficial for both parties. These include expanding mobility programs, strengthening scientific cooperation, establishing joint laboratories, and launching talent management programs. I see particularly great potential in the fields of automation, materials science, energy, and artificial intelligence, where our research and innovation capacities can complement each other well. Such meetings play an important role in building international scientific and educational relations, as well as in preparing new joint research and innovation projects." The rector emphasized that the event further strengthened Óbuda University's international presence and opened up new opportunities for research, educational, and innovation collaborations. He added: "It was an honor to be the only university leader invited to address the participants and present Óbuda University's educational, research, and innovation activities in the plenary session of the Liaoning International Friendship Conference. Following this, we held discussions with the President of Northeastern University, during which we reviewed potential areas of cooperation, with a special focus on student and faculty mobility, the launch of a 1+1 year program supporting young researchers, and the possibility of establishing joint research laboratories.
A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed at the same event, providing a framework for developing strategic cooperation between the parties and implementing joint educational, research, and innovation initiatives. Liaoning University is one of China's key public higher education institutions, possessing strong regional roots, a broad academic portfolio, and a growing network of international research and educational relations.
