Our University is proud to support the hosting of the World University Canoeing Championship
Hungary is once again hosting a prestigious international sporting event: from August 17 to 20, the FISU World University Championship Canoeing will be held at the Katalin Kovács National Kayak-Canoe Academy, which opened in Sukoró in 2024. At this global competition, the finest rowers in higher education will test their strength and skill. During the nearly week-long event, the focus will extend beyond sports to include culture and education as well.
Mayor Dr. András Cser-Palkovics views the global event as a significant opportunity; while Sukoró serves as the host, Székesfehérvár is committed to providing all necessary assistance for its successful execution. Both Óbuda University and the City of Székesfehérvár are assisting in numerous organizational processes, expressing confidence that many more international events will come to Sukoró in the following years, as the local economy stands to profit alongside the sporting experience. He also mentioned that social and cultural programs will be featured during the University World Championship.
The history of University World Championships dates back to 1963 (with handball being the first); today, they are held biennially across various sports, each at a different location. FISU, the International University Sports Federation—a global organization representing 174 countries—always organizes its University World Championships in the years between the World University Games. During the nearly week-long event, the focus will extend beyond sports to include culture and education as well.
