Strengthening Ties Through the China-Hungary Board for Higher Education Cooperation
On May 20, 2025, Obuda University welcomed a high-level Chinese university delegation for a strategic dialogue on expanding academic collaboration between Chinese and Hungarian institutions. The event, hosted in partnership with the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference (HRC), welcomed the China-Hungary Board for Higher Education Cooperation (CHB), marking another significant step toward internationalization and the expansion of joint educational programs.
The representative of CHB delivered a comprehensive report on their 2024–2025 activities. As the largest China-Hungary higher education cooperation platform, CHB currently connects over 57 Chinese universities and facilitates increasing student mobility and institutional visibility between the two nations. She also highlighted the role of the iStudy platform, an education service provider that has promoted Hungarian study opportunities in China since 2003, and its success in sending over 800 students to Hungary in 2024. The target is to raise that number to over 1,200 by 2027.
The CHB will organize the Educational Global Partners Conference (EGPC) in April 2026, a major networking event expected to host 200 international agents, representatives from more than 150 Chinese universities, and dozens of Chinese education consultants. This initiative is designed to further solidify Hungary’s standing as a preferred destination for Chinese students, especially for Master’s-level programs.
The meeting featured presentations and introductory materials from five partner institutions:
- Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics
- Sichuan Vocational College of Cultural Industries
- Guangdong Ocean University
- Hangzhou Normal University
- Beijing Normal University
Each university presented their academic strengths, international goals, and areas for future collaboration. The Chinese representatives expressed interest in expanding inbound and outbound student exchange, and joint research.
Obuda University sees this forum as a springboard for sustainable academic diplomacy and innovation. With concrete goals of increasing student mobility, promoting mutual visibility on social media in China, and expanding research partnerships, the University is well-positioned to become a central hub in Chinese-Hungarian academic exchange.
