Obuda University Proposes Cyber-Medical Partnership at the HMAA Annual Conference

A delegation led by Rector Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács took part as invited guests in the 57th Annual Conference of the Hungarian Medical Association of America (HMAA). The Rector presented his research on cyber-medical systems in cancer treatment and, at the HMAA Board meeting, proposed a new cooperation framework in cyber-medical systems between Obuda University, Hungarian medical faculties and the Hungarian-American medical community.

The HMAA Annual Conference is a long-standing, CME-accredited event for researchers, medical professionals and academic experts. This year it brought together more than 100 participants from seven countries and featured over 70 scientific presentations. For the first time, medical technology appeared as a dedicated programme area, reflecting the growing role of artificial intelligence, digitalisation and engineering solutions in healthcare.

Rector Kovács presented his research titled Cyber-Medical Systems Approach for Taming Cancer with Control Engineering Methods, which explores how control engineering methods and cyber-medical systems can contribute to new approaches in cancer research and treatment. Dr. Marcel Pop spoke about the challenges and opportunities of internationalisation in higher education, including the role of European University Alliances and international academic partnerships.

The delegation was also invited to the HMAA Board meeting, where the Rector presented a proposal for structured cooperation between Obuda University, Hungarian medical faculties and the Hungarian-American medical community, with HMAA as a supporting professional organisation. The initiative aims to establish a cyber-medical systems cooperation framework that supports joint interdisciplinary research, involves exceptionally talented students in challenge-driven projects, and contributes to the development of innovative medical technology solutions.

During the conference, the delegation met prominent members of the Hungarian-American community, including research astronaut Tibor Kapu, entrepreneur Christian Sauska and Piros Pazaurek, Honorary Consul of Hungary in Central Florida, as well as leaders of several academic and clinical institutions.

Participation in the conference helps increase Obuda University’s international visibility, build new research and educational partnerships, and apply the university’s engineering and technological expertise directly to the advancement of healthcare. Beyond professional networking, the event laid the groundwork for long-term, international and interdisciplinary cooperation in medical technology.
