Successful Excellence Obuda Team-Building Camp
We spent a day and a half in Visegrád with the students who were awarded the Excellence Obuda Scholarship for the 2026–27 academic year. At the very beginning of the academic year, colleagues from the Talent Management Office prepared our scholarship recipients for the tasks and challenges ahead, with a particular focus on interdisciplinary cooperation and joint research projects. The programme was intensive, the pace was fast, and the atmosphere was excellent.
As part of the Excellence Obuda Scholarship Programme, launched in 2025, an orientation and preparatory team-building camp was organised for our new scholarship recipients for the first time this year. Held in early September, the event was attended by almost all scholarship recipients. The students were supported throughout the programme by university mentors, trainers and colleagues from the Talent Management Office.
The programme opened with a presentation by Dr István Szabó, Director General of the Centre for Talent Development and Pedagogy (TPK). The students then presented their research projects and papers in preparation for the Scientific Students’ Associations Conference (TDK), scheduled for autumn 2026, in a series of one-minute presentations. The research concepts and project plans presented demonstrated that our scholarship recipients are taking their preparation for the TDK extremely seriously, with their work and pursuit of excellence driven above all by their continuous curiosity. Dr Szabó also highlighted the importance of the connection between curiosity and successful innovation during the discussion that followed the one-minute presentations. Excellence Obuda scholarship recipients represent all faculties of our university, resulting in a diverse range of research areas and TDK projects. The “TDK pitches” provided an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about each other’s fields of research and identify potential opportunities for research collaboration.
The playful activities and exercises led by professional trainers helped the students gain a deeper understanding of their own skills and potential, as well as those of their peers. This is fully aligned with the objectives of the Excellence Obuda programme, which seeks not only to identify and support excellence at the individual level, but also to build and foster a close-knit university community. Without exaggeration, the Excellence Obuda camp in Visegrád represents an important step towards achieving the goals of the excellence programme.
As the closing activity of the team-building camp, seven students volunteered to deliver pitches of no more than one and a half minutes in English, convincing the audience why they should be selected to represent Obuda University at the IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN) Student Leadership Conference, to be held in early November in Texas, USA. Following the pitches, the audience selected the top three presenters through an anonymous online vote. The three students will travel to Grapevine, Texas, in November to represent Obuda University at the international IEEE-HKN event.
