Our Delegation Held Discussions on Educational and Research Cooperation During Its Visit to South Korea
A delegation from Obuda University, led by Rector Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, undertook a highly successful professional visit to South Korea, where advanced discussions were held on expanding international academic and educational relations. The primary objective was to ensure that the negotiations would lead to tangible cooperation opportunities for our students, lecturers and researchers as soon as possible.
The first stop was the University of Ulsan, where the delegation presented Obuda University’s achievements in education and research. Discussions focused on student and faculty mobility, short-term professional programmes, dual-degree programmes, as well as joint research and innovation initiatives. “It is particularly important for us to establish a relationship with a university operating within one of the world’s strongest industrial and technological environments,” said the Rector.
The second stop, Ulsan College, placed practice-oriented higher education and industry partnerships at the centre of the discussions. One of the key messages of the meeting was that close cooperation between higher education and industry plays a crucial role in providing competitive, practice-oriented knowledge and skills. For Obuda University, it is also of paramount importance that our educational programmes and international partnerships respond to the actual needs of the labour market and industry. We are therefore working to establish educational and research collaborations that further strengthen this connection.
“We believe that international academic partnerships are one of the most important drivers of university development. We are therefore working to ensure that these discussions can soon develop into joint programmes and long-term strategic partnerships,” said Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács.
From Ulsan, the delegation continued its professional visit towards Busan, where two further university meetings were scheduled. En route, the delegation visited the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, which clearly illustrates why South Korea is regarded as one of the world’s leading industrial and technological centres. Within this world-class industrial ecosystem, innovation, engineering expertise and university research are closely interconnected. The visit further confirmed that the competitive higher education of the future will increasingly rely on strategic partnerships with industry.
In Busan, the delegation first visited the Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, where Obuda University’s educational and research achievements were presented. The discussions focused on student mobility, targeted professional programmes and longer-term academic cooperation. In one of South Korea’s most important industrial and technological regions, partnerships that can give rise to joint educational and research projects in the future are of particular value.
The 23rd IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control) World Congress is one of the world’s leading international professional events in the fields of automation, control engineering, robotics and intelligent systems. Held every three years, this year’s congress took place in Busan, South Korea. A research group from Obuda University, PhysCon, also participated in the event, presenting several papers and thereby representing the University’s academic and scientific work on the international stage.
The congress brought together participants from 73 countries and featured nearly 500 technical sessions and more than 3,000 scientific papers. In addition, 4,435 participants had registered online in advance. The congress provided an excellent opportunity to establish and strengthen international academic connections, gain insight into the latest research findings, and further enhance Obuda University’s international presence.
“I have been active in the professional community of IFAC since 2005, so it was particularly important to me to be able to participate in person in this prestigious 23rd World Congress,” the Rector emphasised.
The final university stop of the delegation’s visit to South Korea was Dongseo University, an institution with a strong international outlook and a particular emphasis on innovation and practice-oriented education. During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities to expand their international cooperation, with particular attention to student mobility, short-term, targeted summer programmes, and joint professional and research initiatives.
“I am convinced that partnerships of this kind directly strengthen Obuda University’s international presence and competitiveness. They create new opportunities for our students to gain experience in an international environment, while our lecturers and researchers can benefit from new professional networks, joint projects and opportunities for knowledge exchange.
“I consider it particularly important that we do not focus exclusively on long-term cooperation: short, intensive and thematic programmes can also provide significant added value to our students’ education. Dongseo University can be a valuable partner for us in this area as well, and I believe it is a relationship worth developing further,” Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács highlighted.
