Obuda University, Stanford and the National University of Singapore Launch Joint Medical Robotics Project
Obuda University, Stanford University and the National University of Singapore (NUS) have launched a digital twin-based medical and laboratory robotics project under the HU-rizont Programme, announced Prof Dr Levente Kovács, Rector of Obuda University. He added that Obuda University is both the leader of the project consortium and the institutional centre of the initiative.
“It is a testament to the international recognition of Obuda University, and I consider it a tremendous achievement that the leaders of two of the world’s top 10 universities enthusiastically accepted our invitation to join the initiative,” emphasised Prof Dr Levente Kovács. As he explained, robots are increasingly capable of performing complex tasks, while research can be significantly accelerated through the application of artificial intelligence methods. At the same time, despite the effectiveness of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in digital tasks, significant challenges remain in applying AI to physical interactions that require fine motor skills. The MedLaBotX project aims to bridge this gap by developing new research methodologies in the fields of deep neural computing and realistic multimodal simulation environments, known as digital twins.
All three universities are providing significant research resources to support the implementation and operation of the project. This is demonstrated by the commitment of leading researchers and laboratory heads from both NUS and Stanford University to the joint initiative.
The Antal Bejczy Center for Intelligent Robotics at Obuda University is expected to be a primary beneficiary of the project, as its objective is to establish, within three years, a centre of excellence with international recognition in the fields of medical and laboratory robotics and embodied artificial intelligence, highlighted Prof Dr Levente Kovács.
