Groundbreaking Research and Three Decades of Excellence at the Heart of the INES Conference
Leading experts from around the world gathered for the 30th time to explore the latest developments in intelligent engineering systems at the anniversary edition of the **IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Engineering Systems (INES 2026)**. The conference's global reputation was reflected in the submission of scientific papers from researchers representing 18 countries.
The scientific program featured four distinguished plenary lectures. **Naoyuki Kubota** (Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan) presented his research on the topological intelligence of robotic partners; **Yo-Ping Huang** (National Taipei University of Technology, Taiwan) discussed industrial and aquaculture applications of artificial intelligence and large language models (LLMs); **Oussama Khatib** (Stanford University, USA) outlined future directions in human–robot collaboration; while **Gernot Kronreif** (Austrian Center for Medical Innovation and Technology, Austria) reviewed the current state and future prospects of medical robotics. In addition, **Luiz M. Alves Dos Santos**, representing the **European Research Council (ERC, Brussels)**, delivered a featured keynote address highlighting global research funding opportunities available to outstanding and innovative researchers.
"The conference provided a fitting opportunity to recognize the outstanding researchers and professionals whose dedication over the past three decades has played a defining role in the development of the INES conference series and in strengthening its international reputation," explained Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector of our University.
The ceremonial awards presentation honored numerous distinguished contributors to the conference series and the broader scientific community. The Grand Award, recognizing outstanding and long-term contributions to the development of the INES conference series, was presented to Prof. Dr. Imre J. Rudas, Founding Rector of Óbuda University and the visionary founder of the INES conference series. The Best Reviewer Award was presented to Vladimír Szomosi in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the peer-review process, while the Best Paper Award was awarded to researchers Taihao Li, Frederik Jorswieck, and Xiaobo Liu-Henke from Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany.
In recognition of their exceptional contributions to the scientific advancement and international success of the INES conference series, the Medal of Honor was presented to Toshio Fukuda, Ren Luo, Masayoshi Tomizuka, Oussama Khatib, and József Bokor. Posthumous Medal of Honor awards were conferred upon János Bitó and Antal K. Bejczy. Furthermore, the Hall of Fame distinction honored several individuals whose work has had a lasting impact on the history of the INES conference series, including Fumio Harashima, Richard Zurawski, and Lotfi A. Zadeh, the founder of fuzzy systems theory.
The anniversary awards ceremony paid tribute to the many researchers, scientific leaders, and international collaborators whose contributions have established the INES conference series as one of the internationally recognized IEEE conferences in the field of intelligent engineering systems. These distinctions not only celebrate outstanding scientific achievement but also serve as an inspiration for future generations, underscoring the enduring importance of scientific excellence, innovation, and international collaboration.
