State award for the professor of Óbuda University

On the occasion of our National Holiday, Eszter Vitályos, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, has awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary, Civil Division, with a ribbon, to Prof. Dr. József Tar, Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, university professor at the Institute of Applied Mathematics at the John von Neumann Faculty of Informatics at Óbuda University, and head of the Doctoral School of Applied Informatics and Applied Mathematics, in recognition of his outstanding work of high quality.

At the ceremony held on August 19th at the Pesti Vigadó, Eszter Vitályos highlighted that Saint Stephen was not only a state founder and unifier of the nation, but also a leader in establishing traditions. Addressing the recipients, she mentioned, "Those of you who are here today are carrying out the work of Saint Stephen." She added that there are two ways for a person to become great: either by achieving significant deeds like Saint Stephen, Széchenyi, or Petőfi, or by performing small deeds that hold great significance for individual communities.



Professor Tar began his career as a research physicist at the United Incandescent Research Institute within the research program of the Central Research Institute for Physics (KFKI). He obtained his doctoral degree in quantum optics and molecular physics from Eötvös Loránd University's Faculty of Science. Between 1989 and 1993, he served as the Deputy Director of Robotic Technology and Automation Center at the United Incandescent Lamp and Electrical Corporation.



Between 1992 and 1994, he worked as a scientific advisor at the Institute of Informatics and Automation at the University of Veszprém. From 1993, at the predecessors of Óbuda University (formerly Bánki Donát Technical College), he held the position of college associate professor, later promoted to college professor in 1997. From 2009 to 2012, he was the director of the University Knowledge Center for Transportation Informatics and Telematics at Óbuda University, and in 2012/2013, he became the director of the Antal Bejczy Center for Robotics. In 2011, he was appointed as a university professor at Óbuda University. From 2013 to 2019, he served as the director of the University Research and Innovation Center. Since 2020, he has been the head of the Doctoral School of Applied Informatics and Applied Mathematics. In 1997, he was awarded the Széchenyi István Professorial Scholarship. In 2022, his contributions were recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Hungarian Association for Information Technology and Telecommunications (NJSZT).

During the ceremony, Dr. Mária Piroska Kőrösi, retired associate professor of Óbuda University and Partium Christian University, was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary, Civil Division.
