Currently he is President of this Institution. He was a founder member of the Bioengineering Department, vogal of the Direction of IST-ID and elected member of the Senate of University of Lisbon, representing IST at the Scientific Affairs Committee. He has 122 indexed publications (including 7 chapters of books and 2 books), about 400 citations and an h-index of 32 (Scopus). He has 3 patents registered. He organized 11 scientific events. He supervised 10 PhD thesis and more than 20 MSc dissertationsParticipates and/or participated as Principal investigator in 8 projects and Researcher in 9 projects. Works in the areas of Engineering and Technology with emphasis in nanotechnology. In their professional activities interacted with more than 250 collaborators. His actual main interests are: Biomaterials production and characterization, Controlled drug release; Mathematical models; Surface morphology and topography; Mechanical properties; Tribology; Hydrogels; Dental materials; Bone cements; Ionic liquids; ecofriendly cements.
