Dr. Robert Redhammer
Robert Redhammer is rector of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU), Slovak Republic with overall responsibility for the university since March 2011. His primary aim is to enhance university research and industrial cooperation in an international frame. The university is ECTS and DS labelled by European Commission and 101 in TOP 200 in Computer Sciences Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU 2012) and 601 in the Time Higher Education World University Rankings (2015). University builds University Science Park “Science City STU Bratislava” as well as new research campus CAMBO in Trnava with recent total investment over 250 mil € and preparing additional investment in volume of 150 mil. €. Before that he served as vice-rector for science and technology including R&D project management as well as technology transfer. In 2003-2011 he was in charge and CEO of the STU Scientific, Ltd. Bratislava, a university fully owned company operating as a University research valorization business unit.
He founded University technology business incubator in Bratislava with a specialized start-up program InQb. The incubator has stimulated and/or helps to start over 50 innovative companies. University is backing up one of the first office of European Alliance for Innovation. Before of that Robert Redhammer was a vice-dean for research and development, PhD study and information technology at the Faculty (School) of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology STU (1997-2003). Robert Redhammer is active in research networking in Slovakia. He is initiator and spokesman of Association of Research and Technology Universities in Slovak Republic and since 2018 vice-president of the Slovak Rectors Conference. He is member of the Advisory Board for Research and Innovation of the Government of Slovak Republic, chair of governing board of the Slovak Academic and Information (SAIA). He was a member of the governmental Board of Research and Development State Program in Slovak Republic and a chair of its subprogram.
He was also a member of the Presidium of the Slovak Research and Development Agency (APVV), the only public organization for funding research and development in Slovakia (2007-2010). In 2008-2011 he was a chair of the Science and Technology Board of the Higher Education Institutions Council. Robert Redhammer was born in 1963 in Bratislava, Slovak Republic. He graduated from STU in electronics (MSc. 1988, PhD. 1993). After graduation he focuses on research in electronics, molecular beam epitaxy, vacuum science and technology, computer simulations / calculations. Later on he started lecturing in electronics, vacuum science and technology and nanoelectronics including design and development of training program. He published over 60 scientific papers, took part in several research projects. Currently he is full professor in Electronics at STU and president of Slovak Vacuum Society, member of International Union of Vacuum Science Technology and Application – IUVSTA. An international experience started at the Electronics Department, University of York, United Kingdom in 1991-92 where he spent one year doing research.
He participated on the MBA Enterprise Corps project in Slovakia, sponsored by USAID (1992-95). In 2006 he gave training courses on Technology Management and Innovation in South-East Asia, Hanoi and Saigon, Viet Nam, and also in Bangkok, Thailand. At the same year he joined the International Visiting Leadership Program on Current Challenges in Higher Education in Washington, Atlanta, Salt Lake City and Pittsburgh, sponsored by US Department of State. Robert Redhammer was awarded Nummum Academiae Memorialem Tribut by Slovak Academy of Sciences in 2013 and Professor Honoris Causa at Obuda University in Budapest, Hungary in 2016.
