Obuda University remains among the world’s leading universities in THE World University Rankings
Obuda University has maintained its position among the world’s leading universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, announced Rector Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács. As in the previous year, the University remains among the world’s top 800 higher education institutions and is the second-highest-ranked university in Hungary.
The THE World University Rankings evaluate an increasingly large international field each year. The 2027 edition includes 2,297 universities from 118 countries and territories, compared with 2,191 institutions in the previous edition. This continued expansion also means intensifying global competition, with universities having to maintain their performance against an ever larger and increasingly competitive international field.
Alongside the expansion of the ranking, Times Higher Education has introduced more granular ranking bands for 2027. As part of this change, the former 601–800 band is now presented in two separate groups, 601–700 and 701–800. Obuda University is still positioned in the 701–800 band under the new system, remaining among the top 800 universities worldwide.
Maintaining this position is particularly significant in the context of the continuously expanding international field. As more institutions meet the eligibility requirements and enter the global ranking each year, Obuda University has succeeded in maintaining a stable presence among the world’s leading universities.
Research performance remains a key strength
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings assess institutional performance through 18 indicators grouped into five major pillars: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook and Industry. The methodology therefore considers not only universities’ teaching and research activities, but also the impact and influence of their research, their international engagement and their links with industry and knowledge transfer.
Rector Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács emphasized that the key pillars of Obuda University's performance continue to be Research Quality and Research Environment. Obuda University’s sustained focus on strengthening research excellence and internationalisation has contributed significantly to its continued presence among the world’s leading higher education institutions.
The Rector emphasized that this year's result is part of a longer-term development trajectory. By further strengthening research excellence, expanding international academic cooperation, and developing its educational and innovation performance, the University aims to further enhance its international visibility and competitiveness.
