Obuda University Wins the Huawei Cloud Industry AI Application Innovation Award
Obuda University has achieved outstanding international recognition by winning the “Huawei Cloud Industry AI Application Innovation Award”, presented at the Huawei Connect 2025 conference, held at the World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center in Shanghai. The event gathered approximately 15,000 participants from around the globe.
The 10th anniversary edition of the conference focused on artificial intelligence technologies and innovations, showcasing Huawei’s latest cloud and AI solutions.
The Industry AI Application Innovation Award honors leading organizations that demonstrate exceptional achievements in adopting cutting-edge AI technologies to address complex industrial challenges and set new benchmarks in intelligent transformation. The award carries international significance, reinforcing the role of Hungarian higher education in global AI development.
“By combining forward-looking scientific research with our strong industry expertise, our university has created pioneering, transformative AI applications that not only deliver immediate impact but also lay the foundation for the future of education,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector of Obuda University.
The award was received on behalf of the university by Csaba Iván, Head of the IT Office.
The awarded solution was implemented within the Huawei cloud-based AI infrastructure used by Obuda University, which provides a secure, accessible developer interface for all members of the university community to conduct LLM (Large Language Model)–based research.
The infrastructure is powered by 1.5 TB of VRAM, more than 5 PFlops of computing capacity, and the DeepSeek R1 LLM (671 billion parameters).
In a recent interview, Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács explained that Obuda University is running several pilot programs exploring various infrastructure solutions. In collaboration with Huawei, the university is leasing a 5-petaflops system, primarily focused on large language model research and applications. However, the Ascend GPU-based system also supports a wide range of AI-driven research and development initiatives.
