Obuda University’s Fifth Doctoral School Accredited

Obuda University’s Doctoral School of Architecture, Design, and Technology has successfully passed the accreditation process by the Hungarian Accreditation Committee (MAB). The initiative for its establishment came from Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector of Obuda University, with the leadership of Prof. Anthony Gall, architect and university professor, and Dean of the Ybl Miklós Faculty of Architecture.

“It is significant that the new doctoral school treats the closely related disciplines of architecture and civil engineering—spanning both artistic and technical fields—as a unified approach in research. One of its key components is the research workshop, which will integrate the work of doctoral candidates from various fields, supported by research grants and industrial funding, while providing a flexible framework for the dialogue between these two scientific areas,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács.

He added that with the establishment of the fifth doctoral school, the university’s unspoken goal is to attract not only domestic applicants but also international students into the university’s academic community. The new doctoral school, supported by the Ybl Miklós Faculty of Architecture and the professional backing of the Rejtő Sándor Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Engineering, is dedicated to research and development in built, object, and environmental culture, focusing on understanding the changing societal and economic needs. The doctoral school’s training program is heavily aligned with the university's research priorities, combining theoretical knowledge with support for the industrial and business applications of university innovations.

The establishment of the Doctoral School of Architecture, Design, and Technology was initiated by Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, with the approval of the University’s Doctoral and Habilitation Council. It was accredited by the Hungarian Accreditation Committee (MAB) in its decision of September 6, 2024 (MAB 2024/4/XX). The MAB also approved the list of core members, whose academic expertise will ensure the quality of the doctoral school’s professional activities. The core members will elect the members of the Doctoral School Council, which supports the work of the school’s director.

The doctoral school is expected to start offering individual training and habilitation in the spring semester of 2025, and organized training programs will begin in the fall of 2025.
