Metallurgical Engineer from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Mexico City, 1978; Master and PhD in Metallurgy, University of Sheffield, England, in 1980 and 1984.
Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the UNAM, 1984-1987. Research Manager in the Flat Steel Division of the Company Hylsa, S.A. de C.V., Monterrey, 1987-1992.
Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León since 1992. Research stays at universities in England and Canada. He was appointed Visiting Professor at the University of Ghent, Belgium, in 2002.
President of the Mexican Society of Foundries, Northern Region, member of the Small and Medium Enterprise Committee of the Chamber of the Transformation Industry of Nuevo León, 2003-4.
He was part of the Scientific Committee of the CTM Technology Centre of Manresa, Catalonia, from 2009 to 2011. He was part of the External Evaluation Committee of CIMAV, 2010-16, of the CIDESI Committee, 2014-20.
He directed the Center for Innovation, Research and Development in Engineering and Technology of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, 2010-2103.
President of the Mexico Chapter of the Iron and Steel Technological Association, 2014 -2016. Member of the Young Talent Program of the Dr. Ildefonso Vázquez Santos Foundation, A.C., and the FIME-UANL 2017-2018.
Member of the Technical Commission for the Evaluation of the National Program of Incentives for Researchers of the National Council of Science and Technology of Paraguay in 2018.
He is the author of more than 200 articles published in journals, more than 40 in national journals, eight chapters in books published by prestigious publishers and more than 200 papers presented at national and international conferences and symposia.
He served as Co-Editor of the Encyclopedia of Iron, Steel and Their Alloys, published by CRC Press in 2016.
He has been invited as an external synod in doctoral examinations at universities in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, the United States of America, Great Britain and Italy.
He has carried out joint research projects with universities in Europe and North and South America.
He collaborated in the proposal for the Mirandaola Forge in Legazpi, Spain, to obtain the recognition of Site of Historical Relevance by ASM International in 2019.
He has directed 21 bachelor’s degrees, 76 master’s degrees and 30 doctoral projects.
He has been invited to serve on the editorial boards of various national and international journals, as well as on multiple committees of private and governmental organizations.
He accumulates more than 1,400 independent citations to his works.
