Sustainable Fashion Meets AI: First Phase of Re:Lindström 3.0 Successfully Completed

Re:Lindström 3.0 – Circular Intelligence: AI Upcycling Fashion Challenge, a joint project of Lindström Group and Obuda University’s Rejtő Sándor Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Engineering, has reached its first major milestone. In the first phase of the initiative, which is aligned with Obuda University’s AI-native strategy, a professional jury evaluated students’ AI-assisted, human-centred and sustainable fashion designs.

The project brings together sustainable fashion, circular design thinking and AI-assisted creative design. It is an excellent example of how industry practice, higher education and technological innovation can work together towards a shared goal. Students reimagine discarded workwear provided by Lindström, designing garments and collection pieces that combine the principles of the circular economy with innovative design thinking and digital creativity.

In the project, artificial intelligence is used to expand creativity, not to replace the designer. This approach is fully in line with Obuda University’s AI-native strategy, which focuses on the responsible, value-creating and human-centered use of AI. Following the Human-Centered AI approach, the main role of technology is to support and strengthen human creative work, keeping students’ creativity and conscious learning at the center of development.

The students’ design documentation and AI-based visualisations were evaluated by a professional jury. Its members were Dr. habil. Dóra Papp-Vid DLA and Dr. habil. Edit Csanák DLA from the Institute of Product Design, and Eszter Gulyás-Ujvári and Mátyás Juhász, Apparel Designers and Developers at Lindström and former students of the university.

Winners of the first milestone:

  1. Yevhenii Vitaliiovich Gryts

  2. Attila Uhrin

  3. Ágnes Strasser

Congratulations to all participating students on their inspiring work! The designs are currently on display at a pop-up exhibition in the university’s main hall. In the next phase of the project, they will be made into real garments and presented to the public on the runway.
