Research, Collaboration, and Excellence at the SAMI 2026 Conference

The IEEE 24th World Symposium on Applied Machine Intelligence and Informatics (SAMI 2026), an international scientific conference, was held from January 29 to 31 in Stará Lesná, Slovakia. The three-day professional event focused on presenting and discussing the latest research results in artificial intelligence and informatics, with strong international participation.

At the ceremonial opening of the conference, welcome addresses were delivered on behalf of Rector Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács by Prof. Dr. Péter Galambos, Vice-Rector for Innovation; Prof. Ing. Peter Mészároš, Rector of the Technical University of Košice; Prof. Dr. Imre Rudas, Founding Rector of Obuda University; and Dr. habil. Dániel Drexler, Chair of the IEEE Hungary Section. In their speeches, they emphasized the pivotal role of international scientific collaboration and strategic partnerships between universities in advancing research and innovation.

A total of 154 scientific papers were submitted to the conference, of which 117 were accepted for publication following a rigorous peer-review process. Researchers and professionals from 19 countries participated in the event, clearly underscoring the symposium’s international standing and recognition. Following the opening ceremony, prestigious plenary lectures were delivered by internationally renowned experts: Prof. Dr. Alexandru Kristály (Sharp Logarithmic-Sobolev Inequalities via Optimal Mass Transport), Prof. Dr. Amir H. Gandomi (Evolved Machine Intelligence in Action), and Prof. Ing. Zdeněk Bečvář (Empowering Autonomous Systems with Multi-Modal Semantic Communication and Computing). The professional program then continued in parallel technical sessions.

On the eve of the SAMI 2026 conference, the TUKE–OU Young Researchers Grant Award and the Grand Award were presented during a formal award ceremony. The TUKE–OU Young Researchers Grant Award is a joint initiative of the Technical University of Košice (TUKE) and Obuda University, aimed at supporting the scientific careers of young researchers and strengthening professional and academic cooperation between the two institutions for the 2026–2028 period.

Within the framework of the program, awards were presented to Lenka Kabošová (TUKE) and Dr. habil. Viktória Sugár (Obuda University); Peter Ján Sinčák (TUKE) and Bálint Károly Farkas (Obuda University); Ivanna Betušová (TUKE) and Dániel Tokody (Obuda University); Kristian Sopkovič (TUKE) and Artur István Károly (Obuda University); as well as Michal Demko (TUKE) and Attila Marczis (Obuda University). Two special awards were also presented to Dávid Hriadel (TUKE) and Bertalan Beszédes (Obuda University).

During the event, the Grand Awards were also conferred upon Professor Liberios Vokorokos and Prof. Dr. Imre Rudas. These awards recognized their long-standing, impactful professional contributions since the founding of the conference and their outstanding role in the success of the symposium.
