Book Launch in Osaka

The UNI.CO.RE Symposium, jointly organized by Obuda University and Osaka University, and the accompanying book launch were met with great success as part of EXPO 2025 Osaka.

Following the successful 1970 World Expo, Osaka is once again hosting the global event, centered around the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” highlighting the importance of innovation, sustainability, and global collaboration. The Hungarian Pavilion also reflected this nature- and human-centered perspective.

The UNI.CO.RE Symposium focused on Japanese–Hungarian university collaborations and innovative urban development research, closely aligning with the themes of the Osaka World Expo. Held in the Hungarian Pavilion, the academic conference and book launch showcased unique projects that appealed not only to professionals but also to the general public.

The symposium stood as an exceptional example of collaboration between Obuda University and Osaka University. Presentations and roundtable discussions provided insight into the most significant academic projects of the two institutions. Central themes of the scientific dialogue included intercultural cooperation and sustainable urban development. The UNI.CO.RE Symposium featured the participation of faculty and students from both universities, moderated by Dr. Viktória Sugár, with leading educators Prof. Michihiro Kita and Prof. Györgyi Csontos. Research by students from Obuda University's Ybl Faculty was represented by Hanna Szenner and Marcell Nánási.

A highlight of the program was the presentation of the more than 15-year-long joint research project by Dr. Viktória Sugár and Prof. Michihiro Kita. As part of this collaboration, architecture students from Osaka University have visited Budapest multiple times, participating in workshops, field surveys, and exhibitions—with particular focus on the architectural and cultural heritage of inner Erzsébetváros.

During the symposium, the co-authors personally introduced the book “Pest Tenement Houses – Style, Pattern, Development,” which summarizes the results of their research.

The event, marked by international university collaboration, concluded with a keynote address by Takuo Dome, President of the Inochi Forum Council, delivering the “Inochi Declaration.”

The architecture-focused program was realized with the support and cooperation of Obuda University’s Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
