Uzbekistan’s First Innovation Tech Park Built on the Knowledge Base of Obuda University
“One of the greatest successes of our professional work is that Uzbekistan's first innovation technology park will be realized with the involvement of Obuda University,” said Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector, at the inaugural meeting of the Uzbek-Hungarian Inno Technopark Board of Directors on October 12. Obuda University played a key role in the establishment and operation of the Inno Technopark, located in the eastern Uzbek city of Jizzakh, as highlighted during the meeting. Dr. Ergash Saliev, the leader of the Jizzakh region, emphasized that Uzbekistan is investing significant energy and resources into the future, with a primary focus on the development of higher education, scientific research, and innovation.
“Our international relations are becoming increasingly diverse,” Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács noted following the inaugural meeting of the Uzbek-Hungarian Inno Technopark Board of Directors. He explained that Obuda University, as an innovative and investment-oriented institution, places great emphasis not only on mobility and research development collaborations but also on participating in projects that integrate the latest innovative methods into the economic framework.
This objective is supported by Obuda University's science park program, which is being developed in three locations in Hungary and now in an Uzbek city as well, the rector added. The Jizzakh project has reached its final phase, allowing for the scientific and innovation profile to be finalized, Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács reported, following the Obuda University delegation’s visit to Uzbekistan.
On October 11, Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács held discussions on strategic opportunities for Hungarian-Uzbek innovation collaborations with Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, Minister of Agriculture and honorary doctor of Obuda University, Ergash Saliev, Governor of the Jizzakh region, Olimjon Tuychiev, Director of the Uzbek Innovation Development Agency, László Bódis, Deputy Secretary of State for Innovation at Hungary’s Ministry of Culture and Innovation, and Botir Usmonov, Rector of the Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology (TICT), a partner university of Obuda University.
Together with TICT, Obuda University will channel research in key areas such as IT, cybersecurity, and programming, as well as industrial robotics, smart construction, medical technology, precision agriculture, technology transfer, and innovation management into the Jizzakh tech park project. As part of the implementation process, on October 12, the Board of Directors of the joint venture that will operate the Uzbek-Hungarian Inno Technopark was established. In the coming months, the final phase of construction will commence with the setup and equipping of laboratories, Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács confirmed.
