Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács Honored as Honorary Doctor by Bratislava’s STU
For his contributions to strengthening the scientific relations between the two universities and his pioneering research efforts, Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector of Obuda University, was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU). The award was presented by STU’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Oliver Moravčík, during the university’s academic year opening ceremony on September 16. The event was attended by Tomáš Drucker, Slovakia’s Minister of Education and Research and Development.
The STU Scientific Council confers the title of Doctor Honoris Causa (DHC) on both domestic and international individuals who have significantly contributed to the advancement of education, science, arts, or politics, and are recognized experts on a global scale, as was highlighted during the award presentation.
Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács’ professional achievements were celebrated, with special emphasis on his internationally recognized contributions in personalized medicine and cybermedicine.
The honorary doctorate also acknowledged his efforts to strengthen the relationship between the two universities and foster Hungarian-Slovak scientific and mobility partnerships. Prof. Dr. Kovács emphasized in his acceptance speech that the V4 region can only thrive when openness and collaboration characterize the fields of science and higher education.
In addition to advancing academic exchange programs for faculty, researchers, and students, the collaboration between Obuda University and STU also serves as a model in sharing experiences related to international rankings. Prof. Dr. Kovács reiterated the importance of enhancing international relations not only through scientific activities, such as organizing joint conferences and publications, but also at the student level. He highlighted that STU was one of the first institutions to commit to continuing its cooperation with Obuda University under the Pannonia Program.
Alongside Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, the honorary doctorate was also awarded to Prof. Dr. Zenno J. Pudlowski, a visiting professor at STU and a Polish-born scholar residing in Australia, who serves as Director of the Melbourne-based World Institute for Engineering and Technology Education (WIETE).
