Obuda University Ranked Best Young University in Hungary in the Latest THE Ranking

Obuda University is listed as the best Hungarian higher education institution in the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking of young universities. According to data published on the morning of May 14, this latest success indicates that Obuda University has become one of the most significant technical higher education institutions not only in Hungary but also in regional comparisons, commented Rector Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács. The Times Higher Education Young University Rankings lists the world's best universities that are 50 years old or younger.

Obuda University ranks 301-350 in the 2024 Times Higher Education Young University Rankings, as reported by the organization that assesses the world's higher education institutions. Our university has been performing outstandingly on the international stage for years. It is recognized as a leading institution in Hungary in both technical and IT fields. Today, we are among the top 4 percent of nearly thirty thousand universities worldwide. This is also supported by our current ranking among young universities, stated Rector Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, adding that last year we were in the 351-400 range, while now we are in the 301-350 range among young universities. The universities are evaluated based on all their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook – to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparison. The rector emphasized that this result was achieved by measuring the performance of institutions based on 18 indicators this year, compared to 13 in the past. The advancement is therefore also due to our focus on improving the quality of education, as well as placing great emphasis on research and development and strengthening industrial relations, highlighted the rector.

The 2024 Times Higher Education Young University Rankings include 673 universities worldwide, compared to 605 in 2023. An additional 499 institutions are listed as "reporters," meaning they provided data but did not meet the criteria for ranking. Among the young ranked Hungarian universities is Széchenyi István University in Győr, positioned between 501-600.
