The International Community at Óbuda University is growing

International students are essential members of Óbuda University's community, emphasized by Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, the university's rector. Together with Dr. habil. Ervin Rácz, the vice-rector for education, and Erzsébet Veres, the head of the International Education Office, they welcomed first-year international students and those arriving for partial studies through the Erasmus Program on October 9th. During the event, they also discussed the results of the ten-year-old Stipendium Hungaricum (SH) program, which has brought 880 students to Óbuda University since 2013.

Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács extended a warm welcome to the freshmen on behalf of the university's community. He expressed his confidence that during their time here, they will gain lifelong experiences and acquire knowledge that will be beneficial in their adult lives. The rector also pointed out that they made a wise choice by selecting Óbuda University, as it offers one of the highest-quality technical education programs in the Central-Eastern European region.

It was mentioned at the event that the Stipendium Hungaricum Program, which is celebrating its tenth year, has been exceptionally successful. Within the framework of this program, an increasing number of foreign students have been able to study at Óbuda University. Additionally, students have also come to us through other exchange programs such as ERASMUS+ and intergovernmental scholarship programs, including the Scholarship for Christian Young People and the Diaspora Scholarship Program. This year, nearly 150 students arrived for full-degree programs, and the university hosted 85 exchange students. As a result, a total of 231 individuals became members of Óbuda University's international community for this academic year. Currently, the university has 679 foreign students, and if we include dual citizens, mostly Hungarian nationals living beyond the borders, the total number reaches 806.

Student Excellence Award

In the past spring semester, the university leadership decided to announce a call for applications for the Student Excellence Award. The aim was to recognize the work of students who have achieved outstanding results in their studies, sports, and cultural activities, as well as those who have actively contributed to student community activities, volunteer programs, and the internationalization of the university, and to encourage them to achieve their best possible performance. This year, to our great pleasure, based on the results of the spring semester, 14 students submitted applications in response to the call, and eight of them were awarded. The certificates were presented to the students by Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács.
