Obuda University has climbed over 400 positions and advanced two levels in the THE rankings
In the freshly published 2025 global higher education rankings by Times Higher Education (THE) on October 9, 2024, Obuda University was placed in the top 601-800 range, securing the second position among 11 evaluated Hungarian higher education institutions. The data published on the morning of October 9 indicates that this latest success demonstrates Obuda University’s capacity for significant advancements not only on a national scale but also within the regional context, proving the effectiveness of the structural and strategic decisions made 3-4 years ago, commented Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector of the University. The Rector summarized that the reforms introduced years ago and the opportunities unlocked by the institutional model change are now reflected in these outstanding results.
The significant advancement of more than 400 places can also be attributed to the strong emphasis placed on research and development, which allowed the University to excel in the improvement of its research environment this year, Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács assessed. Obuda University first appeared in the international THE rankings in 2021, jumping nearly a thousand places. From 2022, it was ranked in the 1001-1200 range. The Rector highlighted that the current exceptional progress was largely due to the successful, well-planned, and consistently executed strategic developments and structural transformations, as well as the opportunities provided by the institutional model shift.
Subject-specific rankings will soon be published as well, announced the Rector of Obuda University, who expects similar advancements in the fields of IT, engineering, physics, and natural sciences. The THE World University Rankings evaluates the world's best universities using 17 carefully calibrated performance indicators to ensure the most comprehensive and balanced comparison. The overall list is accompanied by 11 subject-specific rankings.
A total of 2,097 universities from 115 countries or regions are featured in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 list, an increase of 185 institutions compared to the previous year.
