On behalf of Óbuda University, may I extend a warm welcome to you on our university website. According to wise men predecessors’ acts, bright sheets of a school story and the name oblige the late successors to continue the custom, pass high-level knowledge and adapt to the claims of the age flexibly. In our university’s life this does not work differently, either.
Óbuda University, established by Sigismund of Luxemburg, Hungarian king, in 1395, later re-founded in 1410, the country’s second, hence the capital’s first university, regards itself as the intellectual heir of the Medieval Óbuda University, Universitas Budensis.
We are proud to announce that present Óbuda University is the legal successor of the Public Secondary Industrial School of Budapest, established in 1879 and the Hungarian Royal Public Training School of Mechanics and Watchmaking, established in 1889. The legal predecessors’ names have been changed several times for the past 130 years. Óbuda University’s direct predecessor is Budapest Tech, or rather its founders: Donát Bánki Technical College, Kálmán Kandó Technical College and the Technical College of Light Industry.
We believe that our future is rooted in our past. Appreciation gained by our founding institutions, definitely positive acknowledgement from the economy accepting our students and our graduates’ proud affection give the basis to our work and answers given to outside and inside challenges.
Óbuda University wishes to remain loyal to its ancestors’ spirit, continues to educate practical high-level professionals, at the same time meeting new requirements of the new era in XXI century, the challenges of joining the European Tertiary Education. Óbuda University’s objective is to be an internationally renowned and competitive institution in its area of science in education, research and innovation.
